Douglas R. "Doug" Cabana is the "senior" member of the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders in terms of years of service, having joined the board in April 1997. His freeholder colleagues elected him to the director's position in 2000 and again in 2001. Prior to that, Cabana was the board's deputy director in 1998 and 1999.
He is, in 2009, freeholder liaison to the county's Department of Law and Public Safety, which includes the county's Communications Center, the Office of Emergency Management, the Division of Health Management, Weights and Measures and the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. Freeholder Cabana is also liaison to the Prosecutor's Office and the office of the Morris County Sheriff and an alternate member of the county's Insurance Commission.
A lifelong Boonton Township resident, he is a former president of the New Jersey Association of Counties. During his term as NJAC president, the association was an initial driving force behind the now popular concept of "shared services." In 2009, he will continue as Morris County's representative to that statewide association, a role he has held for several years.
Cabana was mayor of Boonton Township for six years and a member of the township's governing body for 11 years. He is a former member of the 200 Club of Morris County and a former president of the Morris County League of Municipalities. Freeholder Cabana is an attorney who also has a degree in business management.
