Freeholder and Assembly Candidate Joins Taxpayers on the Green in Morristown to Denounce Rising Tax Burden on Over-Taxed New Jerseyans
April 15, 2009. Boonton, New Jersey.
Morris County Freeholder and Assembly District 25 candidate Doug Cabana joined approximately 1,000 anti-tax protesters to send a message from citizens who have had enough of financial institution bailouts; the stimulus package; and choking federal and state debt .
“The American people are tired and fed-up with the tax and spend politicians in Washington and here in New Jersey”, said Cabana. The theme of this rally is telling – Taxed Enough Already and it sure fits.”
The event, held on the Green in Morristown, was billed as a non-partisan expression of dissatisfaction with the tax situation in the country and particularly in New Jersey. However, certain facts cannot be ignored.
“The 2010 State budget has a $7 billion deficit that middle-class families and small business are going to bear the brunt of paying for through a proposed $1 billion in new or increased taxes; State spending has increased 46% over the past seven years; Our average property tax is over $7,000 and is the one of highest in the country – all of this occurred under the Democrat controlled administration,” states Cabana.
“This rally sends a clear message that taxpayers are not going to stand for this anymore. People want action, not rhetoric! I am proud of the fact that as a current member of the Freeholder Board, I have voted for a $2 ½ million reduction in this years’ budget, which amounts to a real savings in our residents property taxes.”
Cabana is Past President of the New Jersey Association of Counties; Past President the Morris County League of Municipalities; former Mayor and former Committeeman in Boonton Twp; and a champion of the shared services model currently pioneered in Morris County.
“We must develop creative ways to handle the economic crisis facing us – and taking more money away from hardworking taxpayers is not the answer.”
